Leech Lake Pelicans

The spring of 1997 was late - very late - even by Minnesota standards, cold and stormy with periodic snow showers. The Pelicans that normally inhabit Pelican Island on Leech Lake, missed their destination by 20 miles during the snow storm and ended up on Woman Lake. Over 100 birds populated the lake for several while the eldest (one with the largest bump on it's beak) reconnoitered.
